The Most Effective Social Media Tool In The Universe

Pizza.

Yes, pizza.

@tedvilla and I ping-ponged each other on Twitter for a few months before we decided to get together for lunch this past Tuesday.

March 2009

Ted's Twitter bio says "metrowester, social media maven and all around good guy.", so when we first started following each other, I thought that we'd start a "mutually beneficial" (hate those two words) business relationship.

So we bantered back and forth on Twitter with @joewaters (another close friend of mine) until we eventually decided on having pizza at Sweet Tomatoes in Newton, MA.

Pizza

We had lunch, talked about our kids, Tweetups, his business, my business and Twitter (of course). We exchanged info with each other. We listened to each other. We learned - a lot (at least I did).

Finally, we both laughed and marveled at how we never made a single phone call. Everything was set-up via DM on Twitter.

But, the exchange we were able to create while sitting face-to-face simply blew away Twitter. The exchange was much greater than even 140,000,000 characters. We "got" each other.

Get me?

I've only been able to "get" people either on the phone or in person. Maybe it's just me, but I feel that relationships come alive when you meet or talk on the phone.

Or get "physical" like @tojosan does with his postcards. Or when you ask for video comments like @dannybrown does on his blog.

Twitter is amazing, but has it's limitations that no amount of development will solve.

Not even web 7.0 will ever replace pressing flesh - or Chicken Jalapeno Pizza!
